About the Photo

Woo-hoo! Finally rode my first century (100 miles). I entered the Transportation Alternatives NYC Century that took place on Sunday, September 9, 2018. We were wheels down at 7:30 AM.

After a lot of rain, a fellow rider’s accident (some bruises and cuts but otherwise OK), course markings getting washed away by the rain, and mechanical issues caused by the rain (chain skips and drops, brake pads shredded, and flats), it was (finally) bottoms up to celebrate 12 hours and 100 miles later as captured in this photo.

One part of the 100 loop took us out to the Queens/Long Island border which is why I kept (among other beers) this Toasted Lager brewed on LI by Blue Point Brewing on ice as a post-ride celebratory drink.

About the Beer

Pours a pretty dark amber for a lager with a fast dying head. Smell was nothing amazing but the taste was very clean with a bit of a metallic finish at the end that was unique but not overpowering. Overall, a fine lager that’s true to the style. At 5.5 ABV the beer is not quite as light as a session ale but if you need to pace yourself like I did (I still had to get home from the finish line) the Toasted Lager is a fine option.
